I got alot of the same responses from abdallah and krebs.  I thanked them for their time and hope they walk the talk.  I also sent emails to all the Transportation committee, but the one for gary hansen was a bad email and undeliverable.  I work all next week and can't make it to Pierre, but wish everyone luck that goes!

I got a similar response from Rep. Krebs and Sen. Howie, both are on the transportation committees in the House and Senate.  It sounds like we are starting to be heard.

Got this from Sen howie, who is on the transportation committee today.  I think we are gaining ground on this! :)

I am with you on this!

Gaining ground until you have someone else email them saying the complete opposite "Thank you for supporting taking atv off of the streets, they are a nuisance and someone could easily be killed."

Wonder what their response would be then.

A state wide trail system for ATV's would be nice as well this was in the Argus Leader this morning.  Make it happen be in Pierre Wed. for the hearing on SB 175, take a car load of folks.  Kill the bill, support a trail system bill in 2011Ed

It might be tiresome for city street departments across the state, but this winter's blanket of snow is nothing short of heaven for snowmobile enthusiasts.

Especially East River.

"It's very rare for eastern South Dakota to maintain such great trail conditions for so long," said Ryan Raynor, state Game, Fish and Parks Department trail program specialist. "From Redfield to Sisseton and down to Beresford, snowmobile enthusiasts have had plenty of opportunities to enjoy South Dakota's prairie."

And when there's snow, there are snowmobile sales. This season has been spectacular at Power Brokers in Sioux Falls, said owner Jim LeTendre.

"We're scary-close to a 300-unit sales season," said LeTendre, who added that the bulk of his business is motorcycle consignment. "That's a big deal. We've had a lot of people who had a pent-up want and decided to get back into it. It's been crazy-good."

LeTendre's best year until this season - he's owned Power Brokers for eight years - was 236 snowmobiles.

"For every guy who has been dormant and wanted to get back into it, there's another guy who has lost a job or wants to get out of it," he said. "It's been a self-feeding thing."

The snow also has been good for repair shops.

"It's picked up a bit," said Tom Bieber, co-owner of Tom & Dylan's Auto Kruser's in Sioux Falls. "The parts business is up. But most of my customers are the die-hards who travel and love to ride in the west."

And speaking of West River, conditions have improved after a short warm-up.

"Trails were excellent after the holidays, when more than 4 feet of snow covered the 350-mile trail system," Raynor said. "We had a few weeks where many trails had minimal coverage due to warm weather, but colder temperatures and additional snowfall have improved trail conditions just in time for the Presidents Day weekend."

The following was written to some board members of the ORA after they sent out a survey to there membership and of coarse it was a loaded survey for proponets of SB 175. If you want a copy of the survey I will forward it to you  just let me know your email addressThe following was written to some of the board members of ORA.  I am not the one who sent this but I do support what he said.

It’s good that you sent out the survey but why couldn’t you split the license plate issue from the trail funding issue.  Yes I support trail funding and feel trail funding is critical.  But no I do not support losing my plate.  Why is taking something away from someone so important when it is causing you no harm?  If the situation was reversed I would be supporting you in keeping the plate or whatever you were fighting for.    I am so disappointed that you feel the need to take my plate away since we are supposed to be allies and fighting against greenies.  Instead the forces are being divided and the greenies can celebrate that we are having this division.

If plates were not involved we could have a united front and a successful trail funding program.  Instead we have a few fighting against everyone else.  When SB175 fails I hope we can find a way to come together on a plan.   And yes I’d be more than happy to write it, discuss it, and find a legislator to submit it.

Grumpy were you on this Governors task force? >:( and how did you vote? A friend of mine out there in the hills told me you were on this task force and everyone on the task force did indeed vote for this bill the way it was written. I did find out the senator who introduced it, did it exactly as the governors task force wrote it. So splitting the license plate up from the rest of the bill wasnt an option. Killing the bill is not the answer. The answer is passing it through committee and then amending it. This way we can get the process started in producing riding areas and trails through out South Dakota. I also found out the senator is already  in the process of amending it for people who use their atv for plowing snow.

What's the difference if I am using mine for plowing, spraying someone's yard, or riding to the gas station?  Does it get "safer" with a snowplow on it? ::)

Kill it like a Rabid dog!! Im not taking any chances of getting bit in the ass by this thing . If we "let" it pass commitee, who is to say it gets ammended properly? Kill it and write it up like it should be.

We won it was defeated with a unanimous vote of 7 to 0.  Thanks to all who took part in any fashion to defeat SB 175.  Thanks a lot.  Ed Goss
