Last night on KOTA 5:30 news they interviewed Sen. Craig Tieszen. Senator Tieszen wants ATV's off the road. Check out the video and article at http://www.kotatv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11804660 .
I'm not giving up my plates without a battle. :-)
Questions one needs answered in the most recent version of the ATV bill that takes your license plate and your ATV off all hard surface roads in South Dakota. If you receive a response please let me know.
Where does one purchase a trail sticker under this bill, state office or other places?
How does one know when a hard surface road is open under this bill?
Is there any compensation to counties for lost license plate fees and wheel tax money?
If this bill gets to the floor will it require a two thirds vote?
Ideas that could cause plenty of problems
What if you want to go around a lake on hard surface roads and that road crosses more than one county or government jurisdiction.
What if you are ice fishing and want gas for your auger with hard surface between you and the gas pump
Who has to go to the local government to get a hard surface road opened up
How much does it cost to implement an ordinance to open a street or road (guess you as tax payer pay that)
How do I get out of a camp ground on a hard surface road at that camp ground if the only way out if it is not opened.
How many other problems could this bill create??
You can access the legislative research council at
http://legis.state.sd.us/index.aspx then click on current legislators, then click any name, then click contact, enter your email, in the subject line write ATV legislation, then in comments list your name, where you live and leave your comment for the legislator and then thank them for there time and consideration.
For a few minutes of your time think of the hours and hours and even years of fun and places you can go if this bill is defeated. Ed
