-A state trail system...Great! I would love more off-road places to ride.  I would enven help fund it but...not by losing my plates and ability to ride on the road.  These are two different issues.  Nobody can show there is anything seriously wrong with riding ATVs on the roads.  There is not hundreds of people getting killed, the cops keep the kids in check, what's the problem except up-tight people that think ATVs must be a death machine?  They can kiss my A$$!

Went and registered to vote today, since it seems there's finnally some issues I give a shit about.  I don't understand the big push to eliminate the atv plates.  I know it sure would make my life hell with snow removal.  I guess I will have to put a smv placard on it and call it farm machinery.  I would be up for buying a plate for the road and a permit for somesort of trail system

Plain and simple, and I would think any idiot could figure this out, but maybe not. There is NO reason we need to give up our plates to support a trail system. Us giving up our plates is not going to change what they think we can or can not ride on it in the hills.

I support a state wide trail system and I am willing to pay for a sticker.  But that should have nothing to do with my license plate.
_________
While surfing I found the following:

The origins of this struggle over ATVs on public roads in Georgia dates back to the mid 80s when ATVs first appeared. Forest Service officials, alarmed at the spread of illegal user-created ATV trails, their ability to travel cross country and the resource damage they cause, created a series of designated trails for ATV users. At the same time, to promote safety and prevent ATV access to non-designated parts of the forest, the Forest Service restricted use of the 1,200 miles of Forest Service roads in the Chattahoochee National Forest to licensed motor vehicles only.
________
This gives me the impression that with the loss of plates we stand to lose more then just hard surface roads.  We could end up with a very small and confined riding area.    What do you think?

We are now starting to see support from other states in regard to keeping license plates and being able to assess hard surface roads on ATV's. Check it out at www.southdakotaatv.com  Sounds like Senator Tieszens bill will be introduced on Thursday of this week.

I think that Wymoing might have a license plate and a trail sticker program already.  I would be in favor of two fees.  I don't ride on the road a lot, but it is handy when needed.  I am definetly all for actual trail systems being developed and believe that a fee such as $20 is more than acceptable.  Just think of the tourism that a trail system could generate and the riding opportunities for us local riders.

South Dakota could learn a lot from states such as West Virginia, Wyoming and Wisconsin.  Even Minnesota.

I don't know where good places east river would be for trails other than along the Big Sioux River or James River, but something along the Missouri would be nice too.

I'll ride my 'Zuki right to the courthouse and pay my trail fee.  It sure would be nice to actually have some places to ride AND keep our right to the road.  There's no reason to give up that right.

Well Ryan if we can defeat this bill in committee, we won't have to worry about breaking a law.  So I look forward to your help in that effort.  By the way that picture looks like on nice buck.

I know some of you guys have to have pictures of your ATVs in action helping out after natural disasters.  I know a bunch of guys went up to Webster to help with the cleanup of trees and branches after we had that strong wind come through up here a couple years back.  If someone could find a shot of an ATV on the street pulling trees off the road, maybe that could be helpful if this ever goes to a vote.  As we found out on the Keloland forum, there seems to be a lot of people who don't like ATVs.  Maybe it's time they see some positives that could affect THEM someday?

We all can afford ATVs then surely we can afford $10 or $20 to contribute to what ever candidate runs against Senator Tieszen in the next election.  It is about time we fired some of these self serving politicians.

These political hacks need to find out that messing with us is like poking butter up a wildcat's backside with an ice pick, you can do it but you are apt to get scratched up a bit in the process.

Why doesn't the Off-Road Riders
Organization inform their members
they support removing ATVs from
all roads within the state? They
claim near 1,000 members but
only inform less than 10 percent
This is what was on page two of the Rapid City Journal today.

So I was at Sheehan's today and a couple of GFP guys come in ordering a "street leagal" kit for some golf carts so they could lisence them. Kinda think it's weird that the state would want to liscence golf carts, if there's a chance of losing the plates.
