Here in South Dakota we dont own Off Highway Vehicles. We own ATV's ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES. If anyone thinks rolling over and letting them take away my ability to ride my ATV to work on a hard surface road is going to help keep trails open THEY ARE NUTS!!!! Give them an inch and they will take MILES. You talk of alll this opposition. SHOW ME LINKS, Living here the has been no talk of this in the media or anywhere else other than from some idiot who claims to be on our side flapping about it in the RC paper. Show me where all these so called "Public Servants " are talking about this.

I own an ATV, UTV/SXS, four Jeeps and classify all of them as OHVs, it is the correct terminology if it is capable of going Off-Highway regardless of what it is or how it's used.

Since I have received so much negative input regarding an issue I wish we had where I live, I'm about tired of this discussion.

There has been no comment what-so-ever about the efforts I've made on behalf of folks who use "ATVs" off-highway in your State and the trend continues to put the burden of proof on me to do the work to substantiate what is coming your way.

When the hammer finally falls I'm sure I'll receive no acknowledgement for the warning I've issued or the constructive suggestions I've provided.  I ain't crying, it's typical for this vehicle ownership group.

In the end, it's South Dakota's problem, invest some time and research the facts for yourselves.

Anybody know how to use a search engine like Google?

There is nothing on Google pertaining to this other than the article in the RC paper. This issue is rediculous, basically what I am seeing is the BRC is so concerned about losing trails that they are willing to throw us under the bus to get what they want. Do I want to see trails lost, HELL no, but its goin to happen because jack asses keep tearing shit up when they ride on them. From what I see the push is to do this so Fees can be charged for the trails.Tell me why you think we need to loose our ability to ride hard roads for this to happen? BTW, do a little research,(google) South Dakota isnt the only state that allows ATV's on the road.

I already acknowledged that there are more States allowing the sort of access you currently enjoy.  Unfortunately, the CPSC and other Government groups are seeking to end same.

Given the warm reception I've received, I'll leave you on your own for now without the inside information I can share but choose not to.

Thanks for your hospitality!!!

Sure you talk about public servants they are ours not some out of stater.  Let me tell you I'm not interested in what you think we need in SD.  I keep thinking we know what we want or need and your ideas are bull. Just show us how your reshearch has us getting our hinny;s whipped I will wait for your answer.   Stumper is OK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just so you know I have several tractors for agriculture purposes but we don't call them OHV's and we don't normally plan there primary purpose to be on the road but guess what they get use to where we need to be by way of the road. I will always remember and acknolidge your input no matter how far off base it is.  Fine for idiots on the west coast but not for the residents of a great state.

The other thing is this is a farming state, NOT A BEACH STATE.  We don't have the sand to ride on.  Or enough State parks that are rideable.  Don't you think that the state would rather have the income off of everything like thumper said.  That is why people like you should just stay where your at and do your own thing there.  We in SD love what we have, even though it is not much.

When you actually look at the whole picture Lying King maybe you should try and enjoy some freedom without anyone telling you that you can't.

And instead of just posting quotes why don't you actually post a comment to some of the questions that have been asked.  Quit quoting and talk!
And do your think western SD say the Belle Fourche, Newell area is not ranching farming area do your reshearch and use google.

Here's my driveway . . .

See any sand?  I hate sand, having spent six years serving our Country in the Navy and enjoy all of the freedoms I served to protect.

We are predominately a farming, ranching, dairy and lumber State, very little of which is actually comprised of sand.  My entire community is dominated by ranching.  Folks still ride their horses to the Post Office in town and I experience many of the same issues you folks do.

I quote when appropriate and if you bothered to research what I've posted you'd find there are no quotes contained in any of them.  I have posted more of my personal thoughts and research findings than all of the whining and baseless babble contained in the posts I've responded to, thank you.

Atta boy Stumper,  Now all we need to do is have a state wide ATV/UTV organization.  I'm thinking dirt bikes, 4X4's have there interests and some are quite different than an ATV/UTV.   We could use our web site  http://southdakotaatv.com/  to start.  I can imagine the opportunities we could have with all the different grants out there.  I have an idea that would make it pretty easy and I think it could be done in the next couple of months.

I haven't told you anything specific because it would not be appropriate.

The BRC supports OHV Access off-highway. This is an on-highway issue, simple as that.  I can appreciate the uses your OHVs are put to and reasons for same.  Hell, I don’t know how I ever got along without my Rhino!

I take no side on this issue and I doubt any of you would bother to write letters to try and help fellow OHV folks out side of your State as I have done for OHV folks in your State.

I will tell you this . . . IF the current license holders were willing to compromise when they sit down at the table over this, that some licenses could be allowed to remain valid given certain criteria.  However, if people like those who I have encountered here on this forum are at that table, the DMV will simply be instructed to pull all of the licenses.

Start that ATV/UTV Club there Grump and head it up.  Then sit at that table speaking for the entire State and don't compromise one iota, rest assured that every license would be pulled in a heart beat!

Still cant come up with a reason we should give up our plates ? How EXACTLY does giving up our current licensing system help the trail system?

Its becoming pretty clear that you really dont have any "inside" info. Anyone who truley cared about the future of ATV use would do anything they could to keep ALL areas availible to ride on open.

Please let me know who is going to instruct DMV to pull all licenses. (YOU???) Hey Lion King guess what happen in '06 in the legis lature.  We killed a bill that would have put ATV's on the road and out of the ditches.  Then went back in and replaced that bill with a compromise.  so please don't give me a bunch of BS. I know a lot more about SD than any bus load of California future tree huggers.

Tree hugger?  I don't think so . . . I have them, love them . . .  but I cut 'em down for firewood as needed.

I find it interesting that a handful of you folks on this one site pretend to speak for the entire OHV (ATV?) Community in your State and the current rights you enjoy???

I have connections you obviously cannot comprehend, so be it.

Travel your current course and suffer the ramifications . . . why would I stand in your way or even care?

I have merely been trying to share some suggestions which have obviously fallen on deaf ears . . . so be it.

Good luck with your issues, both political and personal!!!

I don't care about highway access for rigs constructed for and explicitly sold as off-highway vehicles!  I'm just trying to help you folks with a little insight.

Look, you are obviously a long standing member of this forum . . . if you continue to let your newbie Ed Goss frame your OHV (ATV?) future in SD then you deserve what you get.

Ed has been aggravating this issue for years now and continues his deluded diatribe to this day on your forum which pollutes any chances you may have at an amicable settlement on this issue.

If you continue to allow him to be your spokes person, you'll reap what you sow!!!!
