License plates
« on: September 21, 2009, 01:46:02 PM »
Are you aware that there is an effort from Rapid City to have the license plate's taken away from ATV's.  The statement was made at an early 2009 meeting of the Off Road Association in Rapid City.  The guy who made the  statement is a board member of the South Dakota Off Highway Vehicle Coalition (SDOHVC) and a board member of the Off Road Riders Association (ORA). Plus executive secretary fo blue ribbon. As I understand it now he is working with a former legislator to get the ball rolling in the 2010 legislature.  We are had at it to not let this happen even tho the ORA has not and says they will not take a stand on the license plate issue.  It looks like they already have with ORA being a big supporter of SDOHVC and a board member against license plates on ATV's in boith groups.

People like that piss me off.  They do not think that taking away the license plates will give the tree huggers more ammo to get use kicked off of more land.  We all need to work together to keep the places that we have to ride open, be it public roads or the hills or anyother piece of govenment land.  Even if you don't have your quad street legal you should be against this.

99% of my riding is on the street, i have no where to ride otherwise.  Take my plates, then  they can buy my ride since it will be useless!

If I remember right you can get a new on-road title when you license your quad or just license it with the off-road title.  Somebody that knows for sure help me out about this.

I had to get my titles coverted over so they have the "ON R" before the vin #.  with out that you can't get plates for it to drive on the street. You have to fill out a paper stateing that you have a horn, lights, mirrors, ect. Then you have to get your signature notorized on that sheet and then back to the courthouse you go and they send you a new title in the mail.

I think the state is trying to be like Sioux Falls.  You have to fill out the paper work like that when you buy the wheeler.  It sucks cause if you don't have it on there threy can fine you.  I know it cost me $60 after Geddes last year when the horn quit cause it was full of mud.  But since it didn't work I got the ticket.
