I've never tried different shocks on my 750 but have had a few different sets on V forces.  The Elka's on my Blue V are really nice.  Pretty plush and the adjustments can make drastic differences.  I did have some Works that were their top of the line model a couple years ago and didn't like them as much.  They were better than stock but didn't have the plush feel of the Elka's.  Didn't seem to respond to changes as well either.    I think either one would help alot though.

dont get the works struts,

I have had them for a couple yrs now and have been nothing but trouble. I raced 5 XC races in 2007 and they blew, sent them back and got them revalved in 2008. Raced one race, and then had medical problems and didnt ride at all except to plow the driveway.

Just started prepping my quad for a trip in Sept and they are blown again. From sitting in the garage under a tarp for months!

they are awesome when they work, but they dont seem to last and I cant rely on the any more. I have friends I race with that have praries and brutes and they had the same issues I am having. Same with others who have them on scramblers on another site I frequent.

All the kawi's running elkas, isnt that just a spring kit for the fronts, not an actual strut?

The 750 doesn't use struts...

The SRA utes still use the strut front end......I'm sure that's what you see more on a XC coarse.  Good info on the works struts by the way.  I've always though of trying them.

I called the Works co. they told me the price of a piggyback shock set up and it was about half price of elka's but if they break twice as often they're not cheaper.  I don't want to put out that kind of money and have lots ot trouble, would seem like a big waste of hard earned cash.

I dont think you would have an issue with their shocks, I have heard good things about their shocks

I am talking strictly just the struts. I am imagine a company like that is doing more research and testing on their double A-arm shocks etc, basically the struts are a fading technology.

I just got an email from one of the engineers I have been working with, here he what he said:

Unfortunately the nature of a strut
design means that the forces at work are trying to bend the shock in the
middle, which causes major side loading. Side loading is the enemy of a
reciprocating assembly. It causes accelerated wear and ultimately damage
to the assembly. The strut design requires that the strut act as a
spindle, an upper suspension member, as well as being a coil-over
shock-- all at the same time. Regular shocks on double a-arms function
only as a shock. As a shock, there are no forces trying to unscrew the
assembly. With a strut, steering causes the side loading against the
threaded seal head, which locks it up and can unscrew it. I believe this
is what may have happened to you and a few other owners. Once the seal
head starts to unscrew, it will leak oil from the top of the shock tube.
Once it loses oil, it will have no rebound control, and the floating
piston inside will interfere with the stroke of the strut.

With that said, their custormer service is 2nd to none and top notch. To honor and stand behind a product still out of warranty says alot about a company. Regardless of the issues they have been great to work with.
