River riding
« on: December 06, 2007, 12:41:22 PM »
sure is quiet on here?

how long before the big sioux is gonna be froze enough to get some riding in.

I love to ride the river from sioux falls and head north. Its nice to get some miles in without having to haul the quad somewhere. Not to mention there are some pretty good areas to ride in just off the river in a few spots.

I rode the ice on the river this afternoon.  It is fine for about 5 miles north of town, then there is open water.

i saw tracks on there the last couple days just off 60th street when I come home from work, with these single digit temps it should start making some good ice

keep us posted I need to get some seat time in. plowing the driveway just isnt enough for me lol

anyone been out on the river lately? how far north can you go. I would like to be able to ride from sioux falls to flandreau if there is enough ice. its a tradition for us to leave in the morning and horse around all day riding to flandreau, we ride into town and grab a steak for dinner and then head back.

im am familar with most the spots there are probably a few sketchy spots near baltic but the river isnt too deep there. The next spots are near the dells by dell rapids and then up by the quarry where the water is pumped in

There were 4 of us on the 23 of Dec we went all the way to Flandreau and back.  My buddy flipped his quad near the edge of the river where the snow is a little harder.  I hope to ride this weekend if the river holds up to the nice weather.

Found out on Wed night that a ranger went through the river. Took 5 guys to pull it out.  No one was hurt but were very cold.  That happened between SF and Baltic.

I still plan on checking it out on Sunday I think. ;D  I hope.

Went riding on Sunday the 13th for about 2 hours, just messing around.  I had my kid with so not able to play much.   The river is ruff in spots,  but still a blast.   We are going riding on Sat mourning.  I think the plan is to unload in Dell Rapids at 10 AM and ride to Flandreu and have lunch then keep running till you want to go home.
