Side by Sides
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:57:31 AM »
With my knee being in the shape it is I think it is time to get a SxS.  I need one that has a big enough box to use for fenceing but I want one that has good power and speed. And It needs to be reliable. I don't know much about them so guys fill me in on the good and the bad of the different models.  I think a 700 Rhino would be about what I am looking for but don't know for sure.

I would be hard pressed to not buy a Razor, Yes I know I said it, I would buy the polaris. The box isnt as big, but it wouldnt be hard to add a little removable extention to it to make it bigger. They are just Bad ass compared to the others in my opinion. Part of my reasoning would be the top speed, as I would be using it on the street alot.

The rzr has the most power and is the fastest 58 stock, mid 60s withclutch spacer removed. It is also 50 inchs wide. The rhino does 41 to 43 stock and is 54 inchs wide.I think teryxs will run around 50 stock and are 58 inchs wide. It depends on how much you will use it on trails and tight spots vs, how much you will use it for work. They do make bed extensions and stuff to make the rzr bed bigger.

love the rhino, but like stump said the polaris is alot faster, i bought the cdi and it did not do much on speed but did on low end power, depends what you are going to use them for the most.

If I were buying one today, my choice would be the Prowler.  Unless you are riding mostly ATV only trails, then you'd almost have to get a Razor.  Depending on how much you want to spend, I'm sure the ThunderProwler would spank the Polaris and have a usable box and better ground clearance.

The only thing the prowler 1000 is is fast and expensive, they actually lowered the ground clearance to try and make it handle, you can bye a rzr s model for 1000.00 less and it just won the shootout in atv action mag.It comes with long travel suspension and bighorn tires stock and will handle ruts and whoops at speeds the others cant even reach on pavement.

If he is looking at a Rhino, he must be looking for more of a utilty/workhorse rig rather than speed and handling.  The Rhino is good, Andy, and it's been around long enough to be proven and relialble.  It's also got the better wet clutch design so it won't be so hard on belts.  Good luck with your decision.

Andy one other thing to consider is that the 700 rhino is fuel injected the 660s were not as is the 09 teryx the 08s were carb.and the rzr is fuel injected

Knowing Andy ,Speed and Handling are more important. Utility/workhorse are just a good excuse to justify buying one. ;D

i would say you really only have three to choose from i would say the rhino, razr, and tyrex. the rhino and tyrex are more work orientated and the razr is more fun. depends if you plan on selling this to your dad later so he has something to work around the lake house with.

The Terex is much more friendly to the guy who wants to build something fast with the vast choices in performance parts for Kawi's.  If a guy wants to have more of a sleeper, it's fun to start with something that's not known for being fast, like a Rhino, and surprise people when you get it figured out.

there are tons of add ons for the rhino a hell of a lot more than the trex, being it is so new, and the rhino has been around the longest, depends what you want to do with it?

i think there is just as many go fast goodies for the tyrex as the rhino. you have your clutching yep both have, cdi yep, exhaust yep, cams and other motor mods yep. i think they are pretty even in the mod area. so sadly if you want an all out fast one between these two i would have to say tryex. if you add in the razr i dont know it would be interesting to see. also ryan you sure went to loving yamaha fast and bragging them up. dont give me the whole ive loved yamaha forever cuse of the snowmobiles either. a company can be good at one thing and not the other.  ;D
