Grass/Dirt Drag strip length??
« on: February 27, 2009, 08:02:42 PM »
I've never heard of 500 ft. quad drags, most snowmobile drags are 500 right, in fact I think most of the hard core guys in N.E. and else where gear for 300 ft. Don't they?  I just think we should stick with the industry standard. My 2 cents. Let here what you think.

300ft for sure.  My ice drags were 660ft and that was nuts (set up for snowmobiles).  If someone is faster at 300', chances are that 500' will just make the win by more quad lengths.  300' will actually make reaction time a factor.

i have raced lots of ice on sleds at 660 feet, well i know last year in parkston 500 feet was to much for my brute, i like the 300 mark.  i would say my rhino will problaly blow up in 500 feet

Definatly 300 ft. Thats what all the sand drags are and most of the grass drags that i've ever been to are. Parkston and Yankton are always 500ft because of the sleds and their timing system and I know I have to gear different for it or i'll get spanked because mine actually falls off after 300ft with stock gearing.  a 300ft race is alot more competitve than a 500 ft race.

I personally like a longer strip my 2cents.THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION!!
I don't know about the rest of you.BUT I can only hit 60mph in 500 feet.I think about every big bore and sport quad out there can hit 60-70  ??? without hitting a limiter. If you can go faster than that in 500ft you should stop complaining about racing can-am's.
We will stick with INDUSTRY standards @300ft in Gayville

 :D :D :D :D hahaha lol lol Thats halarious.   :D :D

Well 1bad has a point, you can go faster in 500 ft then 300 ft but in 500 ft you have been through all the gears and your just hangin it out there. Most sport quads fall off in 500 ft compared to 300ft.  I can see where 500ft is nice for the can-ams and some of the brutes but I know from racing Moby's 650, it was way more consistant and competitive iin 300ft than it was in 500ft.  1bad you would have killed me in yankton if you wouldn't have been eating a ham sandwhich at the line but thats driver error right there, like they always say, "You can live by the tree and you can die by the tree"  its just part of racing and as a drag racer you get use to it and you get better. Thats not the point however, my point is a 300ft race is more competitive than a 500ft race.
