Hatfield/McCoy Trails
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:49:32 PM »
Has anyone gone to West Virginia to the Hatfield/McCoy trails?  Any advise on places to stay and which trails to ride would be great.  4 of us are going down there in May for 6 days of riding. ;D

Thanks for the info.

Kingrob and I went a couple years ago.  It was the best riding I've ever done.  The different trail systems all have a different feel to them.  I think Rock House is usually most peoples favorite, plus you can ride right into the town of Man to grab lunch.  The red/black trails are no joke.  I was surprised at the difficulty of some of them.  We stayed in Logan at a Super 8 which was junk.  If I go back I think I'd stay at one of the lodge's or Cabin's close to the Rock House trails.  Here's a link with lots of info for you on trails and lodging.

Thanks for the replies, I'll let you know how it goes.  I hope it compares to Utah.  We have been there twice, Moab and Paiute ATV Trails.  Both were great, but we would go back to the Paiute trails first because of the diverse terrain and great views.

How was Moab on an ATV?  I've been there once, just stopped while passing through and have always wondered if it would be fun on a quad.

Moab is a lot of fun on an ATV.  They call the rock in the area "slick rock" but the name comes from the old metal wagon wheels.  The ATV tires have an incredible amount of grip and you can climb some really steep rocks without loosing traction.  The main thing we didn't like is it seemed like you were always looking at the same thing, rock and sand.  We were there in May.  One day we hauled the ATVs to a trail head in the mountains Southeast of Moab about 25 miles and rode into Colorado and had snow that was up to 3 ft deep and that afternoon we were riding in 85 degrees in the Utah desert. That was about the only tail we rode that looked different than the rest.  Some of the trails can get pretty extreme, we had to winch all 4 ATVs down one spot that was about a 12 ft drop off.

Just got back from the Hatfield-McCoy trails.  The trails were great.  It rained and snowed some, but that just made the riding that much better.  No dust!

Just copy your pictures into a folder on your desktop.  When you're in that folder, right click on the picture and select "open with", "paint".  When paint opens, go to "image", "resize/skew".  In the top 2 blanks you will have to do some trial and error to figure out what percent reduction to give the picture, it all depends on mb's.  Try 50% x 50% first and go to file, save.  Then when you try to post, click on "additional options", "browse", and find your folder and picture in the list.  If it doesn't let you post because it's too big, you may have to further reduce the size of the picture in paint and save it again.  Sorry for the novel, if you have questions, ask.
