Atv Drag Racing Season
« on: October 15, 2008, 11:13:45 AM »
It seems like drag racing is the thing to do on this website.  Is there an actual season with a points system or are all the races independent?

Pretty much independent. ATV drag racing is relatively new to SD. I would like to see it more organized, but alot of times it drives up the cost to everyone when that happens.

Actually out of our 130+ members there are probably only 15 to 20 that actually do any racing.

So you don't think there is enough interest in South Dakota to do a points race?

1bad is right here, we all get together at these races to hang out, shoot the shit, and have fun racing eachother. Its not a competition, its just for fun.

I've drag raced for 14 years at Thunder Valley and also work on a top alcohol funny car so its kind of in my blood I guess you would say. The points system is cool if you can run a lot of races per year, say every weekend or every other weekend. There just isn't enough races to have a points system I dont think. I would love to set up a class for us at Thunder Valley but I dont know if there would be any intrest in asphault racing on a real drag strip or not. Glen has always told me that if I got enough people interested I could probably set a class up. Then we could do a points system. I think right now, the grass drags should probably stay the same at least for another year so we get more people interested and maybe more towns interested in having a race. If we could do that then a points system would be cool in the future.

A little bit of everything. Just depends on how many parts they break or what needs to get done. I haven't been able to travel with them much the last couple years so I work on it a lot when its back in the shop. Cy crashed bad this year so we dont know if he is done or not, still waiting for his decision.

would anyone be interested in asphault racing? It would be an 8th mile bracket race if I got one set up.

i know hunter would/lol  the eton took a crap, i think it finally ran out of compression, so that means a big bore kit for it, it will cost me 150.00 for the normall parts or i can buy new jug and piston to make it 110 cc instead of 90cc for 350, so it looks like it will get the bbk.

I thought a season with a circuit would be nice so that a bunch of towns could have races.  maybe 2 or 3 races a month from june till september in the tristate area.  It seems like that is where the most interest is.
