Technically after 30 days have past, since you agreed to store it its considered abandoned. You have to contact the owner and notify him he has 30 days to get it off your yard. Its a dicey area , if you were to resell it and the owner showed up with proof of ownership you would be screwed if you didnt have it . You do have the right to charge storage , which after 3 months , you could start. The only trick is you have to tell him your charging it and how much.
The same thing happened to my dad , he sold a combine to a salvage place , they said they would come get it in the fall , it was un accessable until after harvest. They never came to get it. When he sold the acreage we had a junk dealer come haul all salvage steel away , including the combine.
Did you give the buyer any details , such as serial # etc , how about a bill of sale? I would say , as long as you try every way possible to contact the owner and fail , consider it abandoned and re-sell it. It is in your name , if he does have a bill of sale hes screwed , the late filing fees for not transfering the title far exceed its value. I think after a year , failure to transfer a title is a misdemeanor.
