Event comments and suggestions
« on: August 13, 2007, 03:01:13 PM »
Since the Mud racing with ATV's is a relativly new sport. I am going to start this thread so that riders have a place to post ideas that might help improve events. I dont want this to be an event bashing thread, but if there is a problem at an event and you have an idea  on how to have improved or fix the problem, lets here it. This will help promoters to improve their events as well as give New promoters ideas on how to run their own.

My first suggestion would be to have a good stop watch availible should a lane become un-racable. It may take a little longer to run the event, but probably not any longer than if half the time is spent trying to fix the bad lane.

Build and use a 3rd pit ,odds will be better that at least 2 of them will be close to even.

I would like to see some atv obstacle courses, they include going over logs or rea poles over a rock crawl through a mud pit and around cones .They are run one atv at a time and everyone is timed.

This year for Lake Andes we used a road grader and the lanes will be good.  I know it only takes 1 bad run and the lane will be bad, but because of the room we can't have 3 pits.  In Geddes we put a big bump in the middle and it seemed that everyone enjoyed it.  I guess that we will do something special in Lake Andes also.  A little hint, The last 10 feet may get your attention. hope you want to get wet.  We are thinking about digging the last 10 feet deeper so the water pools up.  That way I think that the water will help get some of the mud off.  The big problem is that all the mud builds up and the atv's get very heavy and hard to run.  We also thought about maybe putting a log or pole in the lane also.  I know that the track will be very heavy mud or known as GUMBO.  We try to do the best we can when we build these.  We are normal people and have jobs and don't get paid for this, It was designed for fun and we do are best.  I think everyone was happy with Geddes last year.  This year we are moving some classes around to avoid atv's getting stuck so much, take up a lot of time pulling people out.

A mud course would be fun, but the course will have to challange the machine as well as the driver.  That  way you can have a little fun feeling out the track. To find the best and worst way around it.  A good course would have mud holes, jumps, bogs ect. thats what makes it cool to watch as well as too run..
Dirve it like you stole it or like your pride depends on it!!!!
