HELLO FROM KC
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:04:55 PM »
I just found this site :o,, I am heading to South Dakota on Saturday (actually I am going to Butte Montana vie SD) and have reserved a cabin at mystic hills in deadwood. We should get there mid day Sunday and will ride around there for the rest of the day, but I just found out today about Farmingdale. Is a place I need to stop by on the way up?

I know I'm alittle late but my first intentions were to stop in Halsey NE and do some riding there, but heard that riding opertuneties are being closed in the Badland/blackhills area, so I thought we should hit them instead before they are closed...

Also, since I am out of state and not staying more then 30days will we need to get any permits?

Thanks, Andy.

Farmingdale is a blast, especially for a sport quad or dirt bike. It has alot of badlands type hills with jumps and hillclimb areas. Also has a few "racetrack" sort of areas, all natural terrain. I've only been out there once, and definately didn't explore the whole area. Lots of ground to cover.

I don't think you need a permit, you don't if you are a resident, so I would assume a non-resident wouldn't need one either, but I wouldn't just take my word for it. I know that you can't drive on public roads without a plate though.

I have a pair of Polaris Utes both with horns and one with a mirror (forgot to order a 2nd one) and I keep an idiot sign and flag on my X2 (in missouri if you want to ride Forest service roads you must have a slow moving idiot sign and a flag along with Permits) so the quads should be good.

I think my plans are to get to Farmindale by early Sunday and ride there before checking in at Mystic hills, then ride some on monday at Mystic hills. I just hope the wife is up for it, she doesn't ride as much as I do but she rode alot a fews ago on our trip to Utah, she did really well on our Magnum 325.

Thanks again for all your info.

I will definatly post pics and a review.

How old is this sight? I can't believe I have never come acrossed it before, just a few months ago when I started planning this trip I was googling South Dakota ATVing and never did I come across this site. I am glad I found it. I am mostly over on Quad Squad and ATV frontier as Redbull.

Farmingdale is a great time, let me suggest that if any riders are inexperianced or get "stage fright" easily while climbing to pay attention to the signs that say "No vehicles beyond this point". When we were there the signs had all been knocked over and we got into some pretty hairy situations. When in doubt, turn around because some of those steep trails only get steeper before they get better. I HIGHLY suggest a GPS ,if somone gets hurt, your going to need it to get out fast or give Coordinates for the helicopter. There is very little cell reception in the area,at least last yr anyways.Ride safe and  PLEASE take lots of pics and post them up...Welcome to the site!!
