Slime
« on: July 14, 2010, 06:31:53 PM »
After my first trip to ride the trails around Nemo. I thought it might be a good idea to put 32 oz of slime in each tire before I go back next week. Is this a good idea? I will be carrying a portable compressor.

A Plug kit is the way to go. Mine has come in handy a couple times out there.

Thanks guys, I have a Yamaha Bruin, I already have a plug kit and compressor. I bought a gal of slime already, always had good luck in my bike tires, but those have tubes. Does anyone have a reason that I should not use the stuff? I just don't want to use it and find out I made a big mistake.

I had my daughter take a photo with me and the bruin today. I will post it on the photos of your ride when she sends them, then you can see who you are helping!

Well. TooDeep uses it and he's a dealer. So it must not be a bad thing.

Make sure it is the real slime, the green stuff, some of the other brands dont work very well especially in the winter time. They tend to settle to the bottom of the tire after setting for awhile and it takes awhile of riding to smooth out.The best thing is to run 6 ply tires, i have had very very few small leaks after many thousands of miles on my atvs/utvs.

I use PCC from Hollander but slime also works, the PCC seems to be a touch better though. If you have it use it as a security.

If he knows it or not Steve has met me, I'm the one that sold him the Bruin.  ;) Steve did you get any trail info or are you just "winging" it out there?

I had the original slime in my 05 sportsman up until the day I sold it , never had a flat .  I have cabelas leak lava in my 08 800 and have never had a problem .   What ever you put in there be sure its latex based and cleans up easily with soap and water .  My biggest fear is getting a small cut and not being able to get a patch to stick ....

Keep in mind that 32 oz is 2 pounds running loose in your tires. It can mess with balance at higher speeds I am sure. Might need that much to keep things sealed but that is a bunch flying around inside your tires otherwise.
